CHARLES MALIS (LAVOISIER HOUSING)
Located in Molenbeek, this 1930s industrial building has been converted into a multifunctional building consisting of productivity areas and a living space. In the form of an H, the wings of the building located on the rue Charles Malis side have been converted into 89 residential units which will include 9 studios, 25 one-bed apartments, 23 two-bed apartments and 32 three-bed apartments. Work began in October 2015. The structure of the building has been retained, and has the particular feature of the use of the “mushroom slab” system. This is made visible in the residential units and confers upon them a certain additional attraction. This significant renovation represents a major statement on the part of the public bodies (SLRB) who are seeking to present buildings with a certain heritage value, such as, in this case, with the building’s Bauhaus style.
The site will continue until October 2016 and is being implemented by a ‘bouw-team’ / construction team structure with the general contracting company Louis De Waele.
