The fruit of the collaboration of a number of architectural practices, namely L’Atelier Architects (part of the Assar group), Audex and Jaspers Eyers, the Galeries Saint Lambert project is located in the historical centre of Liège. This location imposes upon the project certain constraints, in the midst of which a shopping gallery is incorporated into its urban fabric. The new constructions therefore employ a degree of mimicry, while those parts that are listed are renovated to an identical appearance. The new façades respect the scales and alignments of the neighbouring buildings and reproduce, without imitating them, the rhythm and proportions of the openings of the ancient façades. The link between the old and the new part is implemented in glass in order to remove the boundaries between the interior and the exterior, and thus to maximise its opening onto the district.
