We started from a clear vision for the design of this residential care centre, namely to limit the pressure on personnel and the impact of the building on its surroundings. We tried to achieve the former with short connections, an efficient use of space and a low-maintenance infrastructure. Moreover the building’s impact on the surrounding area has been limited by a smaller footprint, a reusable structure and less leakage area.

The interesting circulation patterns in this compact building result in constantly changing stimuli, from the outside world and the world within. The design, which aims to create a healing environment, facilitates a small-scale approach based on the Cantous model but working with larger residential groups is also an option.
