STIB DEPOT

STIB DEPOT

The Haren depot is in response to STIB’s priorities of the sustainable management of its rolling stock and building assets. The construction is divided into two parts. On the one hand, a space dedicated to trams for the management of 120 vehicles, with a maintenance zone and a depot surface separated by a cleaning tunnel. There is also a socio-administrative complex combining offices and premises for use by personnel whose comfort has been focused on.

This large-scale building integrates into its environment through its part-urban, part-industrial appearance, while conferring upon it a convivial and human character. All the vehicle workshop and repair zones have been developed with a cladding in cleaved concrete blocks, which gives them a rocky appearance. Large windows open up a view from the street of the activities of the depot. These windows are provided with planted structures, whose same principle is applied to the socio-administrative complex, thereby offering a unity of reading for the entire project.
