SINT-BARBARA EXTENSION + CONVERSION OF CARE HOME

The extension of the care home is a logical continuation of the existing wing. The design seeks to reflect the need for quality of life for the home’s residents in the block itself, and the built area and its relationship with the rest of the site. The corridors are bathed in natural light, thanks to the use of an open façade on the building’s shorter side, long lateral views through the building and a central patio.

A small-scale effect was achieved by a segmented façade line. The long volume is broken up by positioning the rooms above one another in a mirror-image pattern. Each room has a large window with a view of the green buffer zones. The rooms themselves are large enough to make it possible to include a seating area. The residents thus have the choice to arrange and maintain their private living area as they wish.

For the façade finish, a nuanced mix of facing bricks was chosen, based on the cladding of the service flats, but adapted to blend in with the adjacent existing buildings.

The eye-catching facing brick was alternated with white panels that emphasise the niches in the façade’s surface.

Extension of residential care home (48 extra beds) + renovation (32 renovated beds)
